Looking Positively Presidential

Excluding ZZ Top opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd on a concert tour, the news has been dominated by Donald Trump trying to come up with $454 million by Monday. He was turned down by thirty leading bonding companies which tells you three things: 

1. Trump’s financial empire is not nearly as robust as he brags about.

2. Wall Street is keeping a close eye on his pending criminal cases.

3. Law Enforcement and the Intelligence Community are keeping a close eye on a sudden appearance of foreign “bail out” money. 

On April 22nd, The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on Trump’s immunity claim, but on a narrow issue-"Whether, and if so, to what extent does a former President enjoy presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for conduct alleged to involve official acts during his tenure in office." Most of the court watchers expect a decision in early June. I don’t pretend to have the legal knowledge to talk about this from a legal or technical angle, but from a street guy’s point of view, this is the place where Trump has pushed all his chips across the table and gone “all in”. Get a favorable ruling and you’re home free, the January 6th case goes away. Lose the immunity issue, forget about being president, instead, spend your time talking to guys who’ve done some time, they can give you advice about surviving inside. The Special Counsel will be pushing hard for a trial date before the election. If they get it, he’ll be going in front of a Washington DC jury pool that won’t look anything like him, won’t find his comments cute or clever and Judge Tanya Chutkin is just waiting to “ring him up”. The good news is the judge in the Florida classified documents case will continue to “slow walk” it and protect him to the best of her ability. The Georgia RICO case which could have ruined him, has turned into a circus of backroom deals and seminal stains. The judge, Scott McAfee, who had shown the wisdom of Solomon, being fair but moving the case along, has obviously had it with both sides and is going to require major fixes before this ever goes to trial. But, Donald Trump, through all this, has managed to do the impossible--he’s making Joe Biden look positively presidential….
