There’s joy in Trumpville, the Supreme Court is going to hear his appeal for presidential immunity. As much as Trump has jacked around with the legal system, he finally has his appointment in Sammarah. If the Supremes rule that he has immunity, he walks, if they uphold the appellate court and rule that he doesn’t, he goes to trial over January 6th, just in time for the election. So, why did the Supremes decide to hear the case after a 3-0 appellate ruling with strong language, and no obvious new issues? It’s pure CYA… they hear the oral arguments, discuss it, issue a 6-3 opinion against Trump and go to lunch. On a practical level, they knew that at some point, either pre- or post-election, they were going to have to deal with Trump issues, so why not get it done now. They don’t appoint stupid people to the US Supreme Court and when they’re appointed as a Supreme Court Justice, they immediately become a part of history, everything they say and do will be studied and nitpicked in every law school and periodical. Living in the public eye, every Justice is protective of the integrity and reputation of the court, and it overrules personal opinions. It also seems that they’d like the voters and their elected representatives to make most decisions and leave them to interpret the constitution…So, Supremes, you’re on stage and this promises to be an interesting show….
